Before playing golf in Dubai and actually making a swing on the golf course, it will help if you know some basic terms in the field.
Tee – small stick usually made of wood or plastic used to hold the golf ball in the ground.
Tee box – it is the area where players drive the ball.
Rough – taller grass that borders the fairway.
Fairway – area course of neatly trimmed grass that runs between the green and tee box.
Green – or sometimes called the Putting Surface. It is a small patch of grass where the cup is located.
Fringe or Collar – thin strip of a little bit higher grass that separates the rough from green.
Flagstick – it stands in the cup on each green. The flag is color-coordinated. Red may indicate a hole placement towards the front of the green. Blue or yellow may indicate a hole is pushed towards the back of the green.
Golf Club – used when hitting a golf ball.
Stroke or shot – it is when you swing and hit the golf ball.
Par – score/number of strokes you finished per hole. If you will take fewer or more strokes the scoring has a different name: birdie, eagle, bogey, double bogey or triple bogey.
